that darn blue

the "blue" day we discussed a few days ago ended up being caroline's only non-pink or purple day in january. she closed the month out strong with a pink, and her 10th koala coin.

Q was glad that, after my 2nd day in the courtroom, i didn't have to go to jail. phew.

not quite

i had jury duty today. i tried to explain the basic tenets of our legal system to the kids because they were curious where i was.

now they think i'm a bad guy and the police took me away... sigh.

no show snow day

so glad the school system decided last night to cancel school today for the 0.0 inches of snow we got.

rip van pickle

caroline requires 12 hours of sleep a night, minimum.  and she'll take a 1-3 hour nap when it is requested of her.

i know i should be happy that she's such a good sleeper, but it makes life rather challenging.  we have to race home from work, to pick the kids up, cook dinner, eat, do homework, do baths, and still get her in bed by 6:30.  and then we have to let her "sleep in" until after 6:30 am, when we really should be pulling out of the driveway.

if she needs this much sleep now, will she just sleep through the entirety of her teen years?!?!

maybe that's not such a bad thing...

blue

caroline was very sad today, bordering on devastated. 

as you may recall, she gets assigned a color each day at school based on behavior.  red is the worst, pink is the very, very best, and the colors go in rainbow order in between.

she's managed to get all purple and pink in january and was really trying to finish out the month like that.

unfortunately she got blue today. (which is still a fine color to be, btw.)

Q kept disappearing on me at kohl's tonight and one time i couldn't find him after looking for 10 minutes.  i finally had to have the employees locate him. 

they found him in toys, but i had looked there several times.

so after we found him i asked where he was, he answered, "the covers." 

i was perplexed. 

"you know, the covers. the things girls wear..." 

then he made circular gestures near his chest.

pickle, the dog, and i are having a girl party tonight while the boys are at the cub scout sleepover.

don't get excited. basically it just means we all crawled in to mommy's bed at 8:00 and unlike the scouts, we are actually sleeping.

Q has a cub scout sleepover on friday night. he's been preparing for it for several days, creating a pile of stuffed animals who need to go to "camp" with him. i keep inadvertently returning them to his bedroom and he gets mad at me because they're excited for the sleepover. god i love this kid.

we had 2 inches of white nonsense that fell from the sky today. (ugh winter.) Q's math teacher assigned them "playing in the snow" as homework. he insisted that if he did not stay outside and play until bedtime that he would get lunch detention for not competing his assignment.

starts calling for and searching frantically for kitty. eventually finds cat passed out on bed in third floor bedroom. breathes.
