one week til one year

quentin was not as excited to get his pictures taken today. sitting still interferes with not sitting still. but we still managed to get some cute ones!

spring, a season too late

so i realize that everyone else put pretty flowers in their yards months ago, but we're running a little behind. sue me. at least they're pretty :) also pictured, our rose of sharon - a hummingbird favorite - and our momma house wren who lives in our birdhouse with her youngsters.

babe: pig in the city

this would have been a way better title for yesterday's post. oh well. :) we all survived Q's day at emergency back-up day care. he didn't notice or care that he spent the day with people he didn't know. they took him out and about, and said he was a gigantic ham on the shuttle bus. (surprise, surprise to anyone who has ever seen him in action!) hopefully he'll do as well today! then one day of him home with me and back to linda life as we know it!!

baby in the city

our day care is closed this week since linda and her family are on vacation. my plan was to work from home all week with quentin at home with me. i made it through monday and tuesday ok, but it is very hard to balance nap time, feeding time, diaper changes, etc. around conference calls and other work. fortunately, we recently discovered that mass general (jeremy's hospital) offers emergency back-up day care to its employees. we can use it up to 21 times per year (and of course pay handsomely for the service) but it does work well in a pinch. quentin is spending today and tomorrow at MGH (friday was all booked.) jeremy was stoked because it meant he could use the HOV lane to drive in to the city this morning! prepping Q for today made me really appreciate our regular day care arrangement. we had to label everything we sent with him (bottles, formula, sippy cups, juice, food, snacks, bib, sunscreen, toys, clothes, etc.) which we never have to do. heck we don't even bring most of that stuff to linda's since she provides most of it. the MGH day care does not mix formula so we had to pre-make the whole day's supply and send that along. i don't have any free time as is, but i would have so much less if i had to go through that amount of day care prep every day! jeremy dropped Q off this morning. the boy didn't even notice or care that he was being left in a totally strange place with people he has never met before. all he cared about was access to all sorts of new toys! he is the only infant there today until 2 so he will get tons of attention. they even go on "field trips" walking around the city. i can't wait for the report out at the end of the day!

the great goat caper

so a few minutes ago, i was in the kitchen cleaning while the boys slept upstairs and i swore i heard goats. our neighbors across the street have chickens so i figured it must be them, but then i went out on to the porch and lo and behold there was a pair of goats in our driveway. i ran back in to grab the phone and phone book to call animal control. several other people must have called it in as well because all i had to say was, "um, there are goats.." when the dispatcher interjected, "on east washington? animal control is on their way." they goats tried to play in traffic so i played goat herder with the extremely clever "good goat, come here good goat" goat-call. i got them over to the tree line on our property and they seemed to like the plant selection so they stayed to munch. they were very nice goats, a male and female, both pretty young. they let me scratch their ears. a black truck drove by slowly and i thought it may be the goats' family. they saw me with the goats and pulled over. turns out, they were mere goat herders too. they had driven up and down the street looking for goat people. and they were smart enough to grab a sleeve of saltine crackers to capture goat attentions (much better than the phone book i had to offer!) the 3 of us managed to keep the goats in our yard and away from the traffic and a few minutes later animal control arrived and took them to, well somewhere, a goat kennel, perhaps? crazy. that's how we roll out here in the country!

11 months old!

my oh my oh my, how time flies! the little Q is 11 months old! he walks (a few steps here and there), he babbles in his own little gibberish all day long, he drinks well from a sippy cup, and he loves to play with the big boys at day care. i guess they will have to stop calling him "baby Q" and come up with a new name.
-
one month to the big birthday bash! one and all are welcome for what is bound to be the best backyard baby birthday ever!
-
today i learned that quentin's friend mikey from day care was very upset at day care a few nights ago because "baby mama" (me) did not pick Q up (baby dada did.) he was also excited every time he saw a blue car last week when day care was closed because he thought it was quentin. apparently their neighbor has a blue car and mikey was very angry every time he saw it in their driveway because he couldn't go over and see baby Q. so cute!

stupid house closes on monday! woo hoo!
