baby in the city

our day care is closed this week since linda and her family are on vacation. my plan was to work from home all week with quentin at home with me. i made it through monday and tuesday ok, but it is very hard to balance nap time, feeding time, diaper changes, etc. around conference calls and other work. fortunately, we recently discovered that mass general (jeremy's hospital) offers emergency back-up day care to its employees. we can use it up to 21 times per year (and of course pay handsomely for the service) but it does work well in a pinch. quentin is spending today and tomorrow at MGH (friday was all booked.) jeremy was stoked because it meant he could use the HOV lane to drive in to the city this morning! prepping Q for today made me really appreciate our regular day care arrangement. we had to label everything we sent with him (bottles, formula, sippy cups, juice, food, snacks, bib, sunscreen, toys, clothes, etc.) which we never have to do. heck we don't even bring most of that stuff to linda's since she provides most of it. the MGH day care does not mix formula so we had to pre-make the whole day's supply and send that along. i don't have any free time as is, but i would have so much less if i had to go through that amount of day care prep every day! jeremy dropped Q off this morning. the boy didn't even notice or care that he was being left in a totally strange place with people he has never met before. all he cared about was access to all sorts of new toys! he is the only infant there today until 2 so he will get tons of attention. they even go on "field trips" walking around the city. i can't wait for the report out at the end of the day!

I guess in cities anything goes, but I think I'd get a chuckle seeing the childcare workers leaving the hospital with a bunch of little guys and getting on the shuttle bus.

Or maybe I'd call the police.
