the great goat caper

so a few minutes ago, i was in the kitchen cleaning while the boys slept upstairs and i swore i heard goats. our neighbors across the street have chickens so i figured it must be them, but then i went out on to the porch and lo and behold there was a pair of goats in our driveway. i ran back in to grab the phone and phone book to call animal control. several other people must have called it in as well because all i had to say was, "um, there are goats.." when the dispatcher interjected, "on east washington? animal control is on their way." they goats tried to play in traffic so i played goat herder with the extremely clever "good goat, come here good goat" goat-call. i got them over to the tree line on our property and they seemed to like the plant selection so they stayed to munch. they were very nice goats, a male and female, both pretty young. they let me scratch their ears. a black truck drove by slowly and i thought it may be the goats' family. they saw me with the goats and pulled over. turns out, they were mere goat herders too. they had driven up and down the street looking for goat people. and they were smart enough to grab a sleeve of saltine crackers to capture goat attentions (much better than the phone book i had to offer!) the 3 of us managed to keep the goats in our yard and away from the traffic and a few minutes later animal control arrived and took them to, well somewhere, a goat kennel, perhaps? crazy. that's how we roll out here in the country!
