but, quentin and his mimi came into the city with me. after my boring doctor's appointment, we met up with jeremy who was just getting off an easy overnight shift. since neither mimi or jeremy have really done the boston tourist thing, we decided to take a
duck tour as an easy way to see the city, considering we were a a group including a preggo and a toddler.

from the duck tour website:

You've never toured Boston in anything that comes close to Boston Duck Tours. The fun begins as soon as you board your "DUCK", a W.W.II style amphibious landing vehicle. First, you'll be greeted by one of our legendary tour ConDUCKtors, who'll be narrating your tour. Then you're off on a journey like you've never had before. You'll cruise by all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts, from the golden-domed State House to Bunker Hill and the TD Banknorth Garden, Boston Common and Copley Square to the Big Dig, Government Center to fashionable Newbury Street, Quincy Market to the Prudential Tower, and more. And, as the best of Boston unfolds before your eyes, your ConDUCKtor will be giving you lots of little known facts and interesting insights about our unique and wonderful city.
-
And just when you think you've seen it all, there's more. It's time for "Splashdown" as your ConDUCKtor splashes your DUCK right into the Charles River for a breathtaking view of the Boston and Cambridge skylines, the kind of view you just won't get anywhere else.

we got there, as advised, at 12:30 for the 1 p.m. tour i booked online the day before. except that somehow, while intended to book the 1 p.m., i booked the noon instead. a friendly duck employee told us to go to the ticket counter to see if we could be booked for a 1 p.m. but said that there might be a $10 per ticket additional charge because the tours have been selling out. at that point i lost it and the preggo water works turned on. i think she felt bad for us so she told us to talk to her supervisor to see what she could do. once inside, upon seeing a crying preggo, the folks at the ticket counter gladly got us on a 1 p.m. with no extra charge. i guess there is one benefit to being hormonally unstable!

this was our duck, the purple one, named north-end norma. many of the ducks in the fleet are repro-duck-tions (sorry, had to) made in recent years to run on bio-fuel and crap like that. but norma is one of the original, authentic WWII ducks.
-
-
norma also happens to be one of the ducks used in the 2007 red sox world series parade. jacoby elsbury rode on our duck and autographed the ceiling.

quentin fell asleep prior to the tour which was a good thing, since he had gotten up at 4:30 in the morning for no good reason.
-
- except that when we woke him up to get on the duck and leave the stroller behind, he was CRABBY, the kind of crabby that can only be remedied by sitting on mommy's lap and drinking 2 sippy cups of juice.
-
once calm, he really liked looking out the window at the cars, trucks, and boats surrounding us. he really wanted to throw my sunglasses overboard. it was hard for jeremy to get any good pictures since i was in the window seat with the boy on my lap. but we all had a good time and got to see the city in a fun, relaxing way.

unfortunately, by the time the tour ended an hour and a half later, quentin had had 3-4 cups of juice and zero diaper changes. quentin was soaked to his socks, as was i since he was sitting on my lap the whole time. he had a change of pants in his diaper bag. i did not, so i had to walk all the way back to the car looking like i had peed myself. good times!
