well, we learned this weekend that quentin has an intense fear of balloons. like insane. after his gym class on saturday, i took him to the party store to pick up the balloons i had ordered for his party. they were waiting for us at the counter when we walked in and he immediately pointed out "balloon" and "ball" (there were a few mylar baseball balloons in the bunch.) he enjoyed the heck out of them while we walked back out to our car, but he FLIPPED OUT when i put the balloons in the car with him buckled into his carseat. like crazy flip out. intense wailing, even worse than when he cut his lip on the fireplace and almost needed stitches. so i had to take the balloons out of the car. i got the more expensive mylar ones to fit in the trunk, but i couldn't get the 10 regular balloons in, so i had to pop them. i could see the people in the store looking at me, trying to figure out why i was destroying $10 of balloons. crazy!

the party was fun and we had perfect weather. quentin did not nap at all on saturday so he was really dragging by cake time. even though he constantly tries to blow out the citronella candles in our yard, he did not want to blow out the birthday candle. he didn't attack the cake with as much gusto as we expected, but he still got messy. he was also too tired to really care about opening gifts, but he found another stash of energy to play with all his new goodies. he played with everything - even the clothes! the boy is seriously crazy for trains and has not stopped playing with the train set from grandma. he carries a couple of the trains everywhere he goes. he is also really digging the t-ball set from mimi. mommy and daddy got him a ride-on train like they have at his gym. thankfully my brother is mechanically-inclined because it was not wired correctly and would only go backwards :)
