design remix: big boy room

we've been working on transforming our guest room into quentin's big boy room for as little cost and effort as possible. i'd say were like 90% complete with only some detail work remaining (need a night light, shoe rack of some sort, coat rack, and a skirt on the train table to hide all the bins of train paraphernalia.) if you watch HGTV as much as i do, you may be familiar with the show "design remix" - that's pretty much what we've done - use what we have and spend very little money. -
the view from the door:
we had to purchase the bed, mattress, and linens. we got him a bunk bed set from overstock.com but only set up the top bunk as a single bed. that way we didn't have to buy bed rails. we also bought the IKEA bookshelf because we didn't have anything to use as such. it is similar to the one in the nursery and is quentin-tested.
i also bought the letters to spell out his name (they will be painted with a baseball look when we do his baseball room in philly) and the wall shelves. we needed some decor shelves that Q couldn't climb on.
old dresser repurposed as a changing table slash dresser. we have had the red dog print for years (also IKEA.)
my uncle gave us the chair for our first apartment in richmond. it is good for story reading and night terror calming.
a slightly different view of the bed. linens are also IKEA (notice a pattern?) the rug was already in the guest room.
the art on the walls used to be in our master bathroom in richmond. they are various beagle and doxie prints purchased on ebay.
the one place we can put stuff we don't want him to touch (though it won't be long before he figures out how to move the train table over to get this stuff too!)
the behemoth train table he got for his birthday. good for choo choos - better for dancing on.
another view. the curtains have been in our past three houses and the walls were already painted this green color when we moved in (one of 2 rooms we haven't painted!)
another view of the changing dresser and behind the door (a good place for the diaper champ!)
a second wicked old dresser (also bequeathed to us by my uncle for our 1st richmond apartment) and the closet. the lamps were previously in the guest room.
