speaking of potty time...
we may have the stubborn-est boy in all the land. after a brief infatuation with all things potty, he no longer has any desire to use the potty. we read the elmo potty book all the time and watch the elmo potty dvd almost daily. we ask him constantly if he wants to go pee on the potty but he never does. if we put him on the potty anyway, he maybe squeezes out a couple of drops, but mostly just wants to play with the toilet paper and flush the toilet. even when it is painfully obvious that he has pooped himself, he lies and says no when we ask him if he has pooped. we've drilled it into his head that he will get a present (we have a stash of monster trucks, including a teenage mutant ninja turtle truck he's been pining for) when he goes poop on the potty. this has definitely registered with him because he constantly walks around saying, "go poop on potty. get a present. turtle truck." but has he done it? nope. we've even done a couple of underwear experiments to see if it would bother him to be wet. note: it does not.

so we will keep trying but not force anything and just let him decide when he is ready. no sense in us driving ourselves mad when he clearly has little to no interest. as long as he's potty trained by kindergarten, right?

Keep track of when he usually poops and put him on the pot right around that time. That's how we got Calder to do it the first time.
Also, I think it was Rachel who suggested keeping the prize in his sight but out of reach as motivation.
Yep, I'm with you, K., no point tormenting everyone.
There's also the running around in the yard naked technique now that it's summer!
i let him see the turtle truck once. i thought maybe it would motivate him. that's how he knows that that one is among the ones we have. major meltdown when he couldn't have it. major. like continued for more than an hour. too painful.
i am fairly certain that he would just act like one of the beagles if we let him run around naked in the yard... go to the corner pee, poop, and then back to playing. i don't think he would miss a beat!
Don't worry...he'll get it. Danielle got it when we did "potty boot camp" over 1 weekend. But she didn't like being wet.
Jordan, on the other hand, like Q, would pee all over herself and continue to play. Nothing bothers her. When she finally peed on the potty, it took a good 4+ months to poop on the potty. (she would ask for diapers when she had to go and would SCREAM if we put her on the potty) Our pediatrician said this was very normal. That so many kids are different and some kids are trained at 2 and some at 4...yeah, he'll get it by kindergarten.
(and i'd be lying if i said we still didn't have the occasional 5 year old accident)
p.s. i think we'll keep gillian in diapers forever. it's just easier. ha ha.
