2T or not 2T

over the weekend i decided to get Q's 2T wardrobe out of storage, to see what i have, what i need etc. also his 18M shirts and pants are starting to look ridiculous. the 2T stuff looks so enormous in comparison, but now that it's out and he's starting to wear it, it's not so big after all. my baby boy is growing up :)

i broke down

and bought the pottery barn kids quilts for quentin's new room. they are on sale, and while i am sure they'll be cheaper at some point, i didn't want to risk not being able to get them. i did manage the willpower to avoid the various adorable pillows, shams, and sheets. i will stalk those for a better deal, but the quilts were the most important part :)
and these are the next things i am coveting for his room. they are original paintings i found on etsy. so adorable. but also pricy. someday.

roo-2: 25 weeks

well, i think it is the beginning of the end. i think i am departing the pregnancy sweet spot (after the morning sickness and extreme tiredness, but before the pain, swelling, and general discomfort.) my ankles are gone. see you in july, ankles. my feet are puffy and shoes don't fit. why doesn't flip-flop weather start in march??? i have my crocs to carry me into warmer temps at least. and my rings barely fit anymore. by the end of the day, i just have to take them off.
Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you'd now be able to discern its color and texture.

Q hits philly

less than 24 hours after returning from richmond, Q and i hopped on another flight, this time to philly to visit our friends. (got to fly while we still can!)
-
note to anyone flying with a child under 2, while jet blue does not require you to show proof of child's age, southwest definitely does. and if you somehow managed to not see that on the southwest website, the dude at the southwest counter will be an utter jerk to you and act as though you are trying to pass off a 16 year-old as under 2. i do have to give southwest credit though - they do say that they require proof of age (i just missed it somehow - prego brain probably.) just out of curiosity i checked out the infant travel policies of some of the other airlines to see who was more normal, jet blue or southwest. seems neither. the others all "recommend" that you bring proof of age, but don't go as far as to require it. now that would really piss me off if i didn't bring it and they wouldn't let me fly. either you need it or you don't! anyway, enough on the airlines...
-
Q did not sleep on the plane down to philly, but he was well behaved at least. there was another 19 month-old on the flight that was not as thrilled about the plane ride.
-
we had a great time relaxing with our friends. Q and Lilly had a fabulous time destroying their house, "sharing" the sit n' spin, and playing outside. the kids have been together several times since they were born, but this was really the first time they actually acknowledged each other's presence and played together.
-
the flight home was much easier since i had jeremy send me a variety of documents to prove that Q is indeed less than 2 and a very sleepy Q passed out on the plane before take-off and stayed down the entire flight!
-
i didn't take too many pictures because Q requires 100% of your attention at all times (he is damn quick and sneaky!) but here's what i've got, plus some my mom took!

roo-2: 24 weeks

i am impressed that they still have food comparisons. i remember from last time that they eventually ran out. maybe they did some intense food-based brainstorming to complete the updates?
Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

jet set baby

we took a quick trip back to richmond this week for jeremy's VCU interview. despite leaving the house at 4:15 a.m. on monday, quentin was well-behaved and slept the entire flight down. he refused to nap the entire trip so we had to find fun ways to expel his energy like playgrounds, a gym, and the children's museum. he did not sleep at all on today's flight back, however. luckily the 7:25 flight to boston only had 17 passengers including us so no one had to sit near us. he was surprisingly well-behaved. i think it is because jet blue has TV.
-
early tomorrow morning, grandma, Q, and i are hopping on another plane to philly to visit our friends. i think i am crazy to take a toddler on 4 flights in one week. Probably. Yeah. Definitely.

roo-2: 23 weeks

a little bit behind, but catching up!
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

enjoying faux spring

the weather here was beautiful yesterday (today too!) but we know it's only fake spring and not the real thing because we're supposed to get more snow tomorrow. that is just march in new england.
-
because it was almost 60 yesterday we let quentin go for a drive in the cozy coupe. we got the car back in january, so it has been sitting on our porch taunting him all winter. there's finally enough open space for him to cruise!

rockin'

quentin is officially in love with big boy chairs. i got him a fuzzy elmo chair off craigslist. he likes it, but he seems to enjoy carrying it around more than actually sitting in it. we also brought up jeremy's childhood rocking chair from the basement and it is a definite hit. it's a little too high for him so he needs some help getting in, but he loves to rock once he's in!

wheel watcher

quentin still loves wheel of fortune. the wheel and baby einstein videos are the only TV he will actually sit and watch.

i want that

this is quentin's favorite thing to say. he hasn't learned the "mine" word yet (thankfully!) and he does not like to say please. instead he will point to something (the fridge or an empty sippy cup if he wants juice, a box of cheeze-its on the counter, a toy that is out of reach) and say "i want that" until you give into his demands. he will sometimes even give you a "thank you" for cooperating. in the past couple of days, he has taken it up a notch. if what he wants is in another room, he will grab your hand and pull you to what he wants before starting in with the "i want that" routine. he did this to me multiple times last night because he is obsessed with playing in the dog crates but mommy has the audacity to keep the crate doors shut. Q doesn't know how to open them (thank god!) so he drags mommy over to let him in. then this morning at daycare, he was lusting after some keychains dangling off one of the boys' backpacks, hanging on the rack out of his reach. i kept telling him, "no, those aren't for you" but he was not satisfied. instead he got linda and dragged her over to the backpack, chanting "i want that" the whole way. he is persistent :)

roo-2: 22 weeks

roo-2 is getting big! it is rocking and rolling a lot, though not as much as i remember Q doing. i have busted out the full belly panel jeans and am loving them again. all jeans really should have elastic waists! :)
At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.
