dog in the dog house. boy in the ER.

we made our first trip to the ER this evening. jeremy is on call tonight so he's at the hospital and i was 15 minutes away from Q's bed time. i almost made it through my solo day. almost. Q flopped on the couch. he didn't flop on jack (the surly old, blind dog) but i guess he was close enough that he surprised the dog who snapped at him. and unfortunately Q's face was in the way. jack got him pretty good. there was a lot of blood and i don't do well with blood, but what choice did i have? i got him cleaned up and saw that he had 2 teeth marks on his eye lid, 2 below his eye, and a tooth puncture on his cheek. the bleeding stopped pretty quickly and nothing looked too deep but we wanted to be sure so i consulted with jeremy via phone/email, my aunt the nurse, and the pediatrician's nurse line. consensus was that he probably wouldn't need stitches but should have his wounds cleaned out and get a prescription for antibiotics. so my aunt stayed at out house with caroline while i ventured off to the ER. - that place was a freaking zoo. i counted 6 kids already waiting in the waiting room when we got there plus a ton of adults. there was one dude actively puking every couple of minutes which was pretty awesome. we waited for well over an hour and Q was getting cranky. he's 2, was bit by an dog, and was up way past his bed time. i just let him scream though, hoping that maybe that would move us up in the priority. i don't know if that's why, but a minute or two later they called us back. - the doctor rinsed out his bites and then gave him some motrin and antibiotic. no stitches needed, thankfully. but i can already tell that he is going to have a doozy of a black eye (so glad we did photos 2 days ago!) jack is in the dog house and will not be allowed near the kids. if they're up and about he will be crated or confined to the office where Q is not allowed. i know jack didn't mean to hurt him, but the dog is only going to get older, blinder, and grumpier.

Poor kiddo! He does look battered and bruised. I'm glad someone was nearby to watch Caroline for you.
