i wanna go to friendly's

jodi came to visit today (yeah!) and we went out to grab a bite to eat at friendly's around 3:45, thinking this would be a good, less-crowded time to go. wrong. the place was a mob scene. when we got seated, our waiter brought over a t-shirt for quentin, which we found a little odd but didn't really think much of it. when our check came, we realized why the place was crazy. apparently they were running a kids eat free promotion to celebrate the recent renovation of the restaurant (hence the t-shirts.) so Q scored a free lunch! bonus! and just as exciting... for the first time since finding out about roo-2, i wanted to eat chicken tenders and fries... and i did... with no regrets! woo hoo! and we thought of a couple more words and phrases to add to quentin's repertoire:
  • hello - which my husband tells me is a different word than hi; this is how Q "answers" any "phone" he talks on
  • no baby - a day care favorite
  • night night

so he has way more than the 10-15 words he is expected to have at 18-months (according to the interweb), though it still seems every other kid his age talks SO much more. oh well, he'll get there!

poor quentin

according to this, he will be a delinquent. yippee.

yes, there still is a roo-1

i have a ton of pics to post dating all the way back to christmas, however, even though we have dug an old computer out of storage and hooked it up to replace the blowed-up one, we have not yet hooked it up to our printer, scanner, card reader, and external hard drive where all the photos are stored. eventually i swear. these days quentin is a quite a handful. he is all boy and loves to run and jump and climb. if you turn your back for one minute, he will be in the window sill banging on the glass or jumping on the coffee table. he is non-stop energy and wears us out. it is funny to see him in comparison to other kids his age, especially the girls in his gym class or his friend lilly. he just does not sit still. ever. linda has started calling him the tazmanian devil! he still isn't really conversing though he does have several words and phrases he uses sporadically but never on command. he goes to the pediatrician next week for his 18-month check-up and we are wondering if he will be required to have early speech intervention. i am guessing yes. he chatters like crazy, we just don't understand it most of the time! his new favorite thing is talking on the phone. he loves to snatch the phone or our cell phones and hold them up to his ear, blabbering away. in a pinch, the TV remote, the baby monitor, or the power brick from my laptop also serve as excellent phones. words he uses (a count so mommy can tell the doctor):
  1. mama
  2. dada
  3. doggy
  4. kitty
  5. hi
  6. bye
  7. yeah
  8. no
  9. thank you
  10. oh man
  11. oh no
  12. uh oh
  13. linda
  14. juice
  15. what's this?
  16. i did it
  17. dude
  18. up
  19. fish
  20. yuv (you-vee: one of the boys at day care)
  21. all done

i know there's probably some i am forgetting. i may edit to add them if i think of more!

most of the multi-word phrases are totally mimicked from the big boys at daycare and are especially cute. my favorite is, "oh man," usually muttered while walking around with his arms up in the air. :)

on time! finally. with all this new found free time, maybe this will become the norm again!
feeling pretty good these days. still grossed out by most food but have enough things to eat that i am not subsisting on crackers and broth either. still can't handle pizza, but for some reason i totally dig domino's cheesy bread dipped in marinara sauce. (same ingredients as pizza, yes. not really sure why i can do one but not the other!)

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

16 week appointment

i went to the doctor on monday for my 16-week appointment. my regular doctor was not there so i had a different dude. it shouldn't have mattered because these appointments generally take 10 minutes: pee, scale, blood pressure, listen to the heartbeat, done. however, i lost another 4 pounds from my last appointment, putting me down 10 since my 1st appointment (and 13 since i found out i was pregnant.) i was actually surprised because i knew i had been feeling better and eating more - i expected to have posted a gain. but i am not worried about this because the same thing happened when i was pregnant with Q because of all the nausea and vomiting. i lost 20 something pounds with him and then gained it all back and more by the end. there is nothing to worry about. but new doctor did not seem comfortable. he actually asked me in a rather accusatory manner, "are you trying to lose weight?" and he didn't seem to believe me when i declared it was due to the excessive nausea. i am also eating healthier than i do when not knocked up because pizza and fried foods, normally among my faves, absolutely disgust me right now. so the doc thinks i am some sort of pregorexic and is making me come back in in two weeks for a weigh in. lovely. in other news, i no longer have a job. i will resist posting bitter rants about how cruel this is to do to someone who is pregnant. fortunately, the severance package is quite nice so we don't have to stress about it for a while.

eventually i will be good at blogging again. but for now you just have to deal with sporadic and untimely posts :)
Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

roo-2: 15 weeks

little bit behind on this one due to the aforementioned computer pyrotechnics. but better late than never! i continue to feel better on the sickness front. so as of right now roo-2 is much better behaved than roo-1! i am pretty sure i felt roo-2 move a couple of night ago, but it's so hard to tell for sure. from babycenter.com: Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.")

Computer Meltdown!!!

We have lots of great pictures to post, only problem is we don't have a working computer to post them with as of night now. The first computer literally blew-up on Saturday: it sparked and smelled like rotting computer. So, we hooked up my old computer and today it went into the crapper. Anywho, we are working to remedy the situation and will have pictures galore hopefully very soon

roo-2: 14 weeks

i am getting caught up on all these back-logged posts. forgive me, i am pregnant and tired. eventually i will get to my last appointment and christmas and stuff like that.
overall, i am starting to feel much better. i have figured out that eating something small every hour or so keeps the nausea at bay. i'm still super picky about what i feel like i can eat, but at least i am eating! roo-2 is now a lemon. from babycenter.com: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

roo-2: 13 weeks

hahaha! shrimp! from babycenter.com: Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.
